PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week (Autumn/Winter 2011)

April 9, 2011

LONDON, Paris, New York and Milan are famous for the bi-annual theatrical displays of high fashion and next season’s must-have’s, but Lahore is the latest city to pin a flag on the international map for its fashion week – an in-depth showcase of the country’s talent. – Cass Chapman, Vogue.com

As with most events, whether they are related to politics, religion, activism, entertainment, or sports; Fashion Weeks in Pakistan tend to share the spotlight with a fair bit of controversy.  However, amidst all the noise there remains a need for us to believe in the power of perseverance and perceived unity.  Such attempts not only give us a rare shot improving at our image in the global context but also provide us with the means of “formalising the processes needed to help commercialise Pakistan’s fashion industry”, not to mention a much needed distraction at times like these.

So here’s to fashion, innovation and enthusiasm but above all, here’s to hoping Pakistan continues making positive international headlines and takes the time to bask in its glory before the next big  fk-up  ‘controversy’.

This year, the third Pakistan Fashion Design Council (PFDC) Sunsilk Fashion Week kicked off at the industrially designed Lahore Expo Centre. The designers who were chosen to showcase their collections ranged from industry veterans and newbies to selected wild cards.

The list started with  Nickie Nina, HSY, Burhan Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Yahsir Waheed, Sahar Atif, Muse, Mohsin, Fahad Hussayn, Teejays, Sara Shahid, Muse, Fahad Hussayn, Burhan Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Mohsin Ali, Sadaf Malaterre, Karma, Khaadi Khaas, Ali Xeeshan, and went on.

Executive Chairperson of the PFDC Sunsilk Fashion Week Committee, Sehyr Saigol said: “We believe that this platform encourages the business of fashion, from the consistent employment of a skilled workforce to opening up retail opportunities and associations, both locally and internationally while also introducing new talents and creativity to the industry”

The models who took to the runway were Cybil, Mehreen Syed, Nadia, Nooray, Rabia, Iraj, Fia, Amna, Zeba, Salina, Fauzia, Rubab and Humaima Malik.
